With over 30 years of expertise in heating and cooling, Brian Aykroid founded CKA Mechanical 15 years ago in Streamwood before moving to their current location on State Street in Hampshire. Alongside his wife, Lora, who manages marketing, payroll, bookkeeping, and taxes, and one dedicated employee, CKA Mechanical delivers top-notch service with a personal touch.

A Lifelong Passion for Fixing Things 

Brian’s love for HVAC began as a curious kid tinkering with tools. A childhood memory of flipping a furnace switch—and a kind repairman’s lesson—sparked his fascination.

“I was influenced by that nice man with a tool box,” Brian quipped.

By high school, a career research project solidified his passion for heating and cooling. 

“I got into this business because I like to fix things, to help someone to get through a bad time.  When things are broken or old and no one else wants to fix them, at the end of the day, I get to stand back and say, ‘I fixed that,’”

Brian treasures the family-oriented vibe of Hampshire, which offers a different vibe from other communities in which he has worked. “I absolutely love this town. When you come from an area like Streamwood, it is a whole different lifestyle. Here it is more family oriented and that referral means more,” he said.  “When you do a good job out here, your work speaks for you.”

“Customers call me to fix something and that’s what I do. I don’t try to upsell my customers,” he said.

Brian’s dedication extends beyond HVAC to the community in which he lives and works. A tee-ball coach for five years and a sponsor of local little league teams, he also earned an Angel Award from St. Charles Borromeo School for donating and installing air conditioning units. He said the students were very appreciative, with many of them stopping him for a moment to thank him for the gift throughout the day. 

“Giving back makes you feel good.  I never felt something I did was so appreciated,” as that donation to the school, he said.
